The Story Behind LayerBuilt Labs

Built in South Texas. One layer at a time.

LayerBuilt Labs started the way most good ideas do — out of a personal frustration that nobody else was solving.

The LayerBuilt Labs workshop

The LayerBuilt Labs workshop — Bambu Lab P1S Combo with filament rack ready to go.

I picked up a Bambu Lab P1S Combo on a Black Friday sale at Best Buy for $550. I knew nothing about 3D printing, but I had a curious mind and some rusty Solid Works knowledge from a high school engineering class years ago. I found Fusion 360, taught myself the basics through tutorials, and within days I was designing and printing my own models.

Around the same time, I was on a weight loss journey using Zepbound and later switched to compounded tirzepatide. Like most people, I'd leave my vials in the fridge and forget about them until the next dose. But as my protocol grew, I started running out of space. Food was touching my vials. I'd knock them over. It was unsanitary and disorganized.

I needed a safe, clean, and organized place to store my vials. I looked up solutions and saw some people using 3D printed cases. I thought — I can do that. Let me see what I can make.

Testing syringe fit against the CAD model

Testing syringe fit against the CAD model — every compartment is precision-measured.

I designed my first case in a single day. It fit my vials perfectly. Then I made another layout for my bac water and syringes. Then another for a friend who saw mine and asked where I got it.

From Hobby to Business

Friends and family started asking me to make cases for them. Then I listed a few on Facebook Marketplace just to see what would happen — and orders started coming in immediately. Different sizes, compartments, custom logos, names, colors. Everyone had the same problem I did, and nobody had a good solution.

That's when I realized this wasn't just a hobby project. I got a second P1S Combo to keep up with demand and to have a backup in case one fails. People started asking if I had a website. I didn't — so I built one.

22 Colors. Fully Customizable.

Every case is printed to order in South Texas. You pick the lid color, the bottom color, and the latch color from over 22 filament options — metallic, matte, sparkle, marble, and more. Want your name on the lid? A custom logo? We do that too.

What Keeps Me Going

The best part of running LayerBuilt Labs is the messages I get from customers after they receive their cases. They love them. Seeing someone organize their entire protocol into one clean, secure case — knowing I designed and built it myself — that's what makes all the late-night prints worth it.
